Athena Calderone Collection Review

Is everyone just as obsessed with Athena Calderone as I am? Both her interior design book and her cook book are just perfection. Swoon worthy thats for sure! Today I wanted to share my thoughts about her recent Crate & Barrel collaboration with you.

Her unique blend of modern with vintage is so captivating. She writes that she’s drawn to a clean, modernist aesthetic when asked about her thoughts on minimalism. The textures in her designs provide a sense of comfort and warmth, whether that be from a shearling accent chair, velvet sofas, ceramic vases or rattan shades. Her collaboration consisted primary of neutral tones with accents of green, mustard, and terracotta. She believes that setting the scene with a neutral foundation brings much needed cohesion to a space.

She created several oak wood furniture pieces in the form of night stands, a media console and a dining table, and included black iron accents with mirrors for that perfect amount of contrast. And of course her collaboration would include several marble pieces, the purple color is to die for! It also wouldn’t be complete without an assortment of stunning vases for her famous oversized branch look that took over Instagram and Pinterest!

What I love about Athena’s work is her power in imperfection. Depending on your interior design style, you may find joy in symmetry (it can be a lot easier on the eyes), where as Athena’s style focuses a lot of asymmetrical design, which is veryy hard to do right for many! Being able to design a space that isn’t symmetrical yet feels balanced and curated, and not just a random collection of decor and furniture is truly something. Do you prefer asymmetrical or symmetrical spaces? I’m certainly a bit of both, there is a fine line with having spaces look too symmetrical, it can lean too formal and lobby like. Let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are!
