Mood for our Florida Home

My Fiance and I bought our first home in Fort Lauderdale in May and I am so so excited to get started with furnishing and decorating once our renovations are completed. We’re living in a 1950’s bungalow that is a full gut job, so we have lot’s to do and a lot of money to spend! Currently, we are waiting on permits before anything starts. In the meantime, I can curate and take my time with finding pieces that I love, anddd probably change my mind a good amount. However, I do have must have’s that have been on my list forever that I can’t wait to implement. and show you.

A few words that describe the style I’m going to be designing our home in is transitional, coastal, casual yet elegant, with hints of European influence. Think Jenni Kayne with a mix of Katie Hodges. Natural materials such as marble and quartzite, a mix of various wood tones, linen type fabrics for furniture and drapery, and jute and wool for rugs. The colour palette will consist of neutrals with unsaturated colours like soft blues, sage, and rust. I may throw in some more dramatic blues and dark green accents where need be but that is the general jist!

Must haves for our home will be white oak flooring, probably engineered. Something not too light where it gives Scandinavian vibes but not something too yellow that it looks outdated. Here’s inspo that I’m thinking, I don’t want many knots in the wood, to keep it more refined and elegant vs a more rustic feel.

Another must have is using natural stone. I’ve been back and forth with going the more practical route with quartz countertops or what I really love, which is marble. Here are some initial mood boards I’ve created for the kitchen and master bathroom. Since the reno is still a ways away, things can definitely change from now until ordering time.

I’ve always been a fan of cream/puddy cabinets. It’s a nice way to warm up the kitchen when you have white walls already. I definitely will be mixing hardware. Brass with polished nickel will be the combination with iron black accents for a Spanish/European flare. A medium to dark wood island is also a must to provide some contrast in the kitchen.

My Fiance and I went to Mallorca this past summer and stayed in one of the most beautiful villas I’ve ever seen. I was in interior design heaven. So many beautiful antique furniture pieces in all kinds of varying wood tones, big books, lush sofas and pillows. It was such an inspiration! Check the photos out below. I definitely will be implementing aspects of this design in our home.

I am so so excited for all of this to come to life! Realistically, all of this won’t be happening for another year or so as the permits are taking a long time and we haven’t ordered any materials. But I will keep the blog updated with more moods/concepts that I create.
